Description

The Campion 535 Allante is a Canadian-built 18-foot fiberglass runabout/bowrider designed primarily for family recreation, cruising and watersports. It has a relatively deep, performance-oriented hull for its size and was offered with both sterndrive and outboard configurations.

The important thing with a 2005 is that engine configuration matters. The 535 was produced in different configurations, so the exact weight, horsepower and draft can vary. The common bowrider specifications are approximately:

Campion used a fiberglass stringer grid, composite transom and reinforced fiberglass construction, and the boat has an integrated swim platform/ladder. NNauticexpo PDF

How it feels on the water

This is one of the more performance-oriented 18-foot runabouts rather than a slow family cruiser. The 535's hull was designed around a combination of acceleration, maneuverability and ride quality. A contemporary test described it as quick to plane with good handling and a hull that works well for watersports. BBaadmagasinet

The cockpit is the main attraction: you get conventional bucket-style helm seating, aft seating, storage and a good amount of open floor space. The bowrider configuration gives you additional seating forward, making it useful for taking a group out for the day.

Ideal buyer

The ideal 535 Allante buyer is someone who wants:

  • A family lake boat rather than a dedicated fishing boat.
  • Tubing, skiing, wakeboarding and swimming.
  • An 18-footer that's reasonably easy to tow and launch.
  • A fiberglass hull with a more substantial feel than a small aluminum boat.
  • Good performance without moving into a 20–22 ft boat.
  • Seating for a family plus friends.
  • A boat that can do a little bit of everything.

I'd rate it particularly highly for 2–5 people. Seven is the rated capacity, but an 18-footer becomes pretty crowded with seven adults plus gear.
